Wood wick candles

Now available! Our handmade Canadian crackling wood wicks!

While still relatively uncommon, wood wicks are very aesthetically pleasing. They create a wide flickering flame with a pleasant low crackling sound, reminiscent of a camp fire or fireplace. Both our wood and cotton wicks burn cleanly, with no additional enhancing treatments (zinc, chemicals, carcinogens, soaking in oils, paraffin, etc). Our wood and cotton wicks all burn at a slow rate, creating a full melt pool.

Our wood wicks are sustainably made here in Canada, by a local red seal carpenter (shoutout to my husband)! Similarly to our cotton wicks, our wood wicks have a metal tab base that can be taken into scrap metal recyclers.

All of our candles are vegan, made with Canadian soy wax and paraben/phthalate free. Available with cotton or crackling wood wicks. No suspect ingredients.

OUR STORY

Hi there, I'm Chelsea! I'm the owner and creator behind Into the Woods Co located in Innisfil, Ontario. Label design, sourcing local toxin free ingredients, web design, book keeping, scent testing, lab studies, handcrafting, environmental assessments, restocking... all me. I've built this little business from the ground up. Its my creative outlet and baby❤.

Professionally, I'm also an environmental scientist and consultant. I have two degrees in environmental sciences from Georgian College and Royal Roads University. I think everyone can benefit from and figure out ways to incorporate environmentalism into their lifestyle and hobbies!

My hubby and I built an addition on our home and part of that addition included my 25’ x 36’ lab, apothecary and office loft space. I love this space, in which I work and create. There’s lots of light and views of Kempenfelt bay and the surrounding forest. When you’re creating energy and intention, one of the most important things is that you vibe with your space. Our company name, "Into the Woods", was inspired by that vibe and intention of creating environmentally friendly, soulful, home goods.

I started off making our sassy soy candles for personal use. Generally, candles give me headaches as producers use UV stabilizers, paraffin wax or plant based wax compositions that contain pesticides, chemical additives to increase scent throw and dyes (Yes, even most blends of soy wax that aren't organic or grown in Canada aren't environmentally friendly or toxin free). We only use organic Canadian grown soy wax. Frequently, these products are still advertised as plant based or health conscious. I use my background in environmental sciences to ensure our products are environmentally friendly and toxin free selfcare items.

The very first clean burning candle I concocted was a coffee scented soy candle. I fell in love and started jokingly referring to it as "I need caffeine! NOW!". My hubby caught on I was referring to my candle creation and not my usual coffee addiction. All of our candle scent themes are concocted to inspire a mood, feeling or intention.

This is just the beginning. I have lots planned and we are now also offering essential oil blends and launching our line of soaps. More to come soon.

You might be wondering what a life cycle assessment is. Well, in environmental terms it is the methodology for determining environmental impacts related to all the stages of the complete life-cycle for a product, process or service.

That may sound like a mouthful, but essentially our business utilizes our background in environmental sciences to create products that are environmentally friendly from cradle to grave and nontoxic in your home while simultaneously benefiting the local community. Our products result in absolutely zero waste.

UPCYCLE JARS

Soy Wax

Organic Canadian grown soy (no pesticides). Nontoxic and 100% plant based.

Tip - When candle makers advertise their products as chemical free always question the source. Not organic = pesticide = chemicals. Soy grown outside of Canada will also have environmental impacts associated with transportation and doesn't support local economy.

Also question the composition of colour additives that can end up impacting ambient air quality. A candle can not be 100% soy if there are colour additives.

Scents

Blends of organic distilled therapeutic essential oils. No additives or preservatives. Scent is enhanced with precise heat chemistry and composition.

Packaging

Down to our labels and shipping materials, minimal and all recyclable. We love kraft recycled paper when packing paper is necessary<3.

Wicks

Thick and clean burning. Absolutely no lead! High quality cotton wicks or handmade crackling wood wicks paired with soy wax creates a long burn time. Over 50+ hours with proper care (9 oz candles). We're serious about candle care. Maintaining your candle enhances scent throw and longevity.
