UPCYCLE JARS

Upcycle Jars

You've finally burned through your Into the Woods Co candle (after a few tears and ordering a new one) you'd like to find a use for the jar (we also accept empty jar returns from our local pickup customers!).

Upcycling items is such a great practice! Repurposing an item or finding it an interested owner diverts useable items from the landfill. Some ideas to repurpose our jars in your own home:

  • makeup sponge container
  • potpourri
  • food storage
  • small plant
(Note that our jars are also recyclable)

How do I remove residue and sticker from jars?

Preparing your Into the Woods co jar for reuse is very simple! There are other methods (like freezing the jars) but I swear by this technique. It's very painless, I promise.

Step 1 - All you need is a conventional oven, a sink and some soap. Once the candle wick has completely burned down, it is ready to be repurposed. Begin by turning your oven on to the lowest temp setting and removing the majority of sticker by hand (stickers are paper and recyclable). Place the jar into the oven and allow it to bake for 5 to 10 minutes. Monitor the jar and once the wax has completely melted into the liquid phase, carefully remove the jar from the oven (the jar will be hot, please use protective hand wear).

Step 2 - Still using the protective hand wear, pour the liquid wax into your compost or green bin. Unlike paraffin, soy wax is completely biodegradable and non-toxic. The base of the wick is metal and can be taken in to scrap metal recyclers. DO NOT pour the melted wax down the drain unless you are prepared to unclog the drain;). There will still be trace amounts of soy wax in the jar, so start by running some warm water (cold water will cause a temperature reaction and the wax will adhere to the jar) and rinse the jar. The remaining wax and sticker can be removed with a soapy sponge.
